BnaEFR1 and BnaEFR2 genes play key roles in elf18-triggered immunity in Brassica napus L.

摘要: Surface-localized pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) are pivotal in recognition of conserved microbe- associated molecular patterns (MAMPs), instigating a branched signaling cascade that ultimately restricts pathogen growth, a process known as pattern-triggered immunity (PTI). In order to assess immune responses triggered by eighteen highly conserved amino acids from the bacterial elongation factor EF-Tu (elf18) in Brassica napus, an oil crop, we investigated the reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst and plant growth. Through bioinformatics and biochemical analyses, we identified two EFR homologous genes (BnaEFR1 and BnaEFR2) in the B. napus genome. Overexpression tests of BnaEFR1 and BnaEFR2 in tobacco prove that the ability of tobacco to respond to the elf18-induced immune reactions is restored. Therefore, BnaEFR1 and BnaEFR2 played crucial roles in recognizing elf18 to initiate immune responses in B. napus. We analyzed the possible phosphorylation sites of BnaEFR1 and BnaEFR2, which may provide clues for further research on the mechanism of elf18-triggered immunity in B. napus.
